Progress is being made at the Kakaho Stream estuary with machinery on site.

Concrete has been poured at the stream edge and now a digger is driving the piles for the boardwalk. The methodology is designed to make as little impact on the wetland as possible with the digger working along a platform formed by the piles as they are driven, as pictured. All worker’s foot traffic is between the two lines of flags.

The members of Plimmerton Rotary who are responsible for sourcing funding for Rotary’s share of the construction costs are constantly applying for appropriate grants and have achieved some success this month with a grant of $150,000 from the Lottery Grants Board.

The Pauatahanui Garden Trail held on 27 November raised $18,000 for the pathway. With those funds available the next stage is likely to go tender in the new year.
